10 Hottest items this week – workwear

August 26th, 2010 admin No comments

Want to know what to buy from this week’s in-store drop? Take a little inspiration from us – every week we’ll scour the virtual rails of our favourite online haunts to bring you 10 hotter-than-hot items that style-savvy shoppers are just dying to get their hands on as they land.

In this week: new-season trousers, staple separates and hot heeled loafers to take you to the office in style.

1. Jaeger Zebra jacket, £225, my-wardrobe.com
A statement jacket is a must-have addition to your workwear wardrobe, and this graphic monochrome striped version from Jaeger is top of our working wish-list. We love its structure shoulders and piping detail – and the zip fastening puts a tough twist on traditional tailoring.

2. Suede Pleat Shorts, £65, Topshop
Work the transitional weather with a pair of suede shorts – with their soft tailoring and pleat details not only will this pair from Topshop work well for the office, they’ll also become your go-to for easy day dressing.

3. KG by Kurt Geiger Menezes shoe boot, £120, Kurt Geiger
A classic black boot will be your best friend at work, and we love KG by Kurt Geiger’s sleek Menezes which ooze understated elegance. Team with tailored trousers or your favourite pencil skirt for a contemporary-classic look.

4. Wool Wide-leg Trousers, £199, Jaeger
Make like a Celine girl and channel this season’s 70s-inspired silhouette with a pair of wide-leg trousers. Jaeger’s camel-coloured wool pair with flattering pleats and a bow-tie waist are the perfect statement piece this season (and more to come) – simply add a silk vest and tan heels and you’re hot to trot.

5. Lee Angel Layered Square Ring, £26, theOutnet.com
Workwear doesn’t have to be plain and boring – add a bit of spice with a piece of statement jewellery. We love the mix of colours and textures in Lee Angel’s layered square ring, and it’s an absolute bargain to boot.

6. Praline High Loafer Shoes, £80, Topshop
Heeled loafers are autumn’s go-to sensible shoe, but for a pair a bit more office-appropriate than Balenciaga’s multi-coloured pair, head to Topshop for its praline-coloured platform versions – they’ll go with all your staple separates and will act as an instant update to your existing work wear wardrobe.

7. Dancin’ Around Dress, £100, French Connection
For an easy throw-on piece, look no further than French Connection’s Dancin’ Around dress. It’s simple and stylish, and will become a great base for layering when the weather drops.

8. By Zoe Oward tapered trousers, £102, my-wardrobe.com
Tapered trousers are fashion’s favourite way to wear relaxed city tailoring, and we love this laid-back pair from By Zoe. Embrace their French styling and team with a Breton top and heels for an effortlessly cool look at the office.

9. Mango Silk Pocket Shirt, £39.90, ASOS
Shirts have always been a work wear staple, but thanks to the new season’s minimalism they’ve been given a whole new significance. Simple pieces in luxe silks are the hottest way to wear them – we’re especially taken with Mango’s silk pocket shirt for pared-down elegance.

10. Anya Hindmarch Fergus Woven Bag, £495, Selfridges
A great bag is the finishing touch in any wardrobe, so invest in a cool-classic that’ll last for season’s to come. We love Anya Hidmarch’s Fergus bag that’ll add a bit of office sophistication to your most basic of outfits and will break up all that black you’ve bought.

Metalicus dress

August 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

My love of stretchy clothing knows no bounds, and if I could, I would never wear any item sporting a button, zip or clasp.

If, like me, you seem to suffer waistline fluctuations on an hour-to-hour basis, then I can’t recommend Metalicus clothing highly enough. It may be made of that stretchy stocking material, but these pieces are also really stylish and hold their shape very well.

I came across this Metalicus dress and was instantly sold. It looks smart enough for the office, but has none of those restrictive zips and buttons that can totally ruin your day if you dare to even look at a carbohydrate-laden lunch.

The Metalicus Make Your Mark t-shirt dress sells online for $189.

Myer mid-season sale

August 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

The Myer mid-season sale has literally just started and if the catalogue is anything to go by, it looks to be another good one.

Some of the bargains on offer include 40% off selected women’s clothing, 40% off all Vue bath towels and 15% off plasma and LCD TVs.

I really like this Bardot jersey dress, which is a bit of a find at just $40 (it was originally $59.95). I love the colour and I also love the fact that it has pockets (or so it appears from the photo). I’m all about pockets at the moment, especially on dresses. They’re really handy if, like me, you are a naturally awkward and nervous person. Stick your hands in your pockets and your body language instantly says “relaxed” rather than screaming “it’s scaring me to talk to you”.

Browse the Myer mid-season sale catalogue for more bargains.

Leona Edmiston Ruby collection

July 29th, 2010 admin No comments

Whilst browsing through the Leona Edmiston website just now, I noted that she has launched a brand new collection of frocks.

The Leona Edmiston Ruby collection sits at around the same pricepoint as the Leona by Leona Edmiston diffusion label (prices are under $200) and consists of some gorgeous brightly coloured dresses for the upcoming spring/summer season.

I’m quite taken with this Millie Military shirt dress. Shirt dresses are a classic and stylish look for the office and can even be dressed down for weekend lunches. For $129, this dress is a definite winner.
